FAITH FACTOR April 2013

BB youth activity Friday 19th April Ashcrofts home 6.30pm
To be approved at BYC 7th April.

FAITH FACTOR   D&C 38:30 which says, “…if ye are prepared, ye shall not fear.”

2 teams, YM vs YM

Answer 3 questions in 3 mins. (gospel knowledge. Bring scriptures and for the strength of youth and hope you have listened in your classes)  10 points if perfect answers, 5 points if nearly there
Then complete  2 activites ( learning about unity/ working as a team) 10 points if they win, 5 points if they complete it, or whatever is decided by the judges. SCORE as you go. takes too long at the end.
Repeat till all questions have been answered and all activities completed.
Knickerbocker glories (ice cream sundaes) as prizes for participating.
The team with the least points makes them first  (individual worth!)
All wash up (good works)

INSTRUCTIONS
Below are the questions (with answers, but answers wont appear on the youths papers)
They answer 3, then the 2 activities. Some challenges require one person, some
more than one person.  Teams may send who they choose, but everyone on the
team should participate in at least one challenge at some point. Then come back to the next 3 questions but you can’t answer them till the timer is started and the other team is back from their activity. Questions are on sep pieces of paper. Handed out when  ready to be completed.

QUESTIONS
1.       Name the three members of the General Presidency of the Church.

2. Where is the doctrine known as “The Word of Wisdom” found in the scriptures?
(Doctrine and Covenants Section 89)
3. According to the “For the Strength of Youth” pamphlet, what are two things you
should avoid on Sunday? (seeking entertainment, spending money)

ACTIVITY
1. Each team will be given one basketball each. The team who scores the most goals in 2
minutes will win the challenge.
2 Each team will be required to put together a 24 piece puzzle. They will not be
given a picture of what it is supposed to look like to help them assemble it. The team
may use as many members as they choose to help do the puzzle. The first team to
finish will win the challenge.
QUESTION
4. Who found a “round ball of curious workmanship” AND how many spindles did it
have? (Lehi; 2) hint if they get stuck - - 1 Nephi chapter 16
5 What are the three offices of the Aaronic Priesthood that Young Men can hold?
(deacon, teacher, priest)
6 Recite the YW theme OUT LOUD. (We are daughters of our Heavenly Father, who loves us,

ACTIVITY
1  Each team will select one person to tie a man’s tie correctly. That person may
choose to tie it on themself or select a person on which to tie it. The first person to
finish correctly tying the tie (must be ok’d by a judge - the tie must have an appropriate
size knot and both ends must be the right length) will win the challenge.
2 Each team will send one member to the table where they will be blindfolded. Five
bowls containing food items will be placed on the table. The person will have to
identify the food items by smell, touch and/or taste. The first person to correctly
identify 4 of the 5 items will win the challenge.

8. Find the two scripture references that promise us the “windows of heaven” will be
open to us when we pay our tithing and fill the Lord’s “storehouse”. (Old

necessary for a strong body? (nutritious meals, regular exercise, appropriate sleep)

ACTIVITY
1 Each team will send one person with a hymnbook. They will be given three
Gobstoppers   and as soon as they are able after getting them into their mouth,
must sing the first verse of “Called to Serve” or “I am a child of God” - - the words must be able to be
understood. The first to finish singing the verse will win the challenge.
2 . Each team will send one member to eat as many pretzels as they can in 2 minutes.
They must completely eat one pretzel before starting on the next one. The person who
has eaten the most pretzels (by official judge’s count) at the end of two minutes will
win the challenge. (there will be 50 in each bowl, if they finish before the timer, they win, if not, whoever has the most left after 2 mins losers, as it might be hard to count how many they eat)

ACTIVITY
1 Each team must select one member to run down to one of the sleeping bags and
while in the bag, place on over their clothing every item of clothing that is in the
bottom of the sleeping bag. The first person to get out of the bag while wearing all of
the items will win the challenge.
2 Each team will send one member to the container of rice. The person must
move all of the rice  from one container to the empty container with tweezers. First finishes wins.
Each container holds exactly 20 grams of rice.

ACTIVITY
1 Each team will send 2 members to eat an entire jar of baby food. A spoon will be
provided. One person feeds the other.  The first person to eat all of the food in the jar and get the approval of the judge will win the challenge.
2 Each team comes to the table.  The boggle game dice will be on the table.  The teams will have
to pick out letters to spell a gospel word that is at least five letters long (such as faith,
gospel, prayer, Bible, etc.)  The first to correctly spell a gospel related word on the plate
and show it to their judge will win the challenge.

ACTIVITY
1 Each team will send one member  to jump rope. The first person
who can jump 30  times without a mess-up will win the challenge. If they do mess up,
they start the counting over again at 1 (each person should have a judge stand next to
them and make the “official” count).
2 Each team will send one person who will be given three large dice. They will roll
the dice (all 3 at once , each time)  until they roll a triple of the same number. The first person to roll a triple will
win the challenge.

QUESTION
19 Where are the 2 places in scripture the sacrament prayers are found. Which books?
(D&C and Book of Mormon)
20 what does virtue mean?

FINAL  ACTIVITY
1 one team member lies on the floor with a cup held in their mouth. Team members take turns  dropping popcorn one at a time into the cup. Most popcorn dropped into the cup after 2 mins is the winning team.  
2 choose a team mate to blow up a balloon till it pops.
3 Each team is given a bowl of water, and in that bowl there are 10 wrapped lollies/ candy /sweets. Using their mouths only, they have to take turns retrieving the 10 lollies. First team with 10 lollies wins
To be done outside.


EQUIPMENT
Timer
2 basketballs
2 x 24 piece jigsaw puzzles (borrowed off members)
2 ties
 2 blind folds 10 small bowls of food. 5  Different  foods for each team. So they cant hear the other team guess correctly
ketchup, fruit, Doritos, peppermints, chocolate icing, apple sauce, popcorn etc
Gum balls x 6
2 hymn books
Pretzels
2 sleeping bags, and 5 items of clothing. The same in each.
Rice 40 grams, 2 tweezers
2 jars of the same baby food and 2 spoons
Boggle game
2 skipping ropes (or one, and the other team waits and then it is based on time taken)
6 dice
2 balloons
2 bowls water and 20 wrapped lollies/ candy
For the reward:
2 x 2 lit ice cream, choc syrup, nuts, 100/1000s, marshmellows, spray cream
Plastic LARGE cups, to put it all in. (surplus direct for large cups)
BUDGET  no idea. Maybe $30
Sundeas will be $17 and the rest on the activities. Ties/ basketballs/ jigsaws etc we will borrow. Just food items to buy.


Will invite Emily (10yrs)  to help run activities, so Mark and President Anderson can keep score/ timer.
Scoring to happen before the next lot of questions are handed out.
Emily and I will line up the next set of activites while the kids are answering the questions.
